How to Bring Nature into Your Kitchen This Spring

April 27, 2015 /Posted byDigitalKitchen

Spring is nearly here; flowers are starting to blossom, the days are getting longer and the sun is shining brightly. It’s time to wave goodbye to the old and welcome in the new by preparing your home – and your kitchen – for springtime. Energise your kitchen and celebrate the joy of spring by following the below tips.

Start with a Good Spring Clean

A good spring clean is an excellent way to say goodbye to winter. Getting rid of winter’s dirt, dust and clutter may not seem like a thankful task, but once completed it will refresh your kitchen and leave you feeling fantastic.

Fresh Flowers

Nothing says ‘spring is here!’ like fresh flowers. Brighten up your kitchen with a flowering plant or a vase of beautiful flowers, and watch the sunshine stream in. This time of year you will find lots to choose from: daffodils, tulips, snowdrops or peonies are just some examples.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetables

Fresh produce is another wonderful way to add bright spring colours into your kitchen. Citrus fruits – like lemons, limes or oranges – look great in a glass bowl, and a fruit bowl full of grapes, apples and bananas will make a colourful centrepiece.

Grow Some Herbs in a Windowsill Garden

Include some greenery into your kitchen by growing some fresh herbs. Not only will they look and smell great, but you will always have fresh ingredients to cook with. Add some plants to your windowsill – little pots of oregano, thyme, coriander or basil will work well – and before you know it, you will have a fantastic little windowsill garden. As an added bonus, you’ll also have the perfect ingredients to add some spring flavours into your cooking.

Add Some Seasonal Joy with a Spring Wreath

Seasonal wreaths are a great way to mark the changing of the season. Including a spring wreath on your kitchen door will add some much appreciated seasonal joy to your kitchen. To bring the joy inside, consider attaching some smaller spring-inspired wreaths to your kitchen cupboards.

Enjoy the Freshness of Springtime

Springtime always smells great: fresh, crisp and clean. Introduce an extra dose of zing into your kitchen with a scented candle or two. For spring freshness, look for aromas of citrus fruit like lemons or oranges.

Spruce Up Your Linen

An easy and fast way to add some spring colour into your kitchen is by updating your linen. Spring themed tablecloths, table runners, place mats and napkins can rejuvenate your home, adding fabulous colour and lots of springtime cheer.

Splash Your Dishes with a Dose of Colour

Adding some bright and colourful pieces to your serving ware adds springtime energy to your mealtimes. Rather than buying a whole new dinnerware set, focus on some key accent pieces that will energise your existing set. This could include a new salad bowl, a set of spring coloured glasses or some bright serving bowls.

Let the Light Shine in

Spring is a season full of bright sunlight, so now is the time to brighten up your kitchen and say goodbye to the darkness of the winter months. Fill your kitchen with yellow spring sunshine, by ditching heavy winter curtains or blinds and replacing them with something more light and airy such as a Roman shade or a window valance. Don’t be afraid to give nature a helping hand by including new sources of lightening in your kitchen.

You could, for example, add a dose of old school glamour to your kitchen this spring by including a glass chandelier or even under-light a cabinet to showcase your china.

Follow these easy steps to bring nature into your kitchen this spring. If you are thinking of buying a new kitchen this year, contact us at Willow Bank. We offer a bespoke service, traditional craftsmanship and high attention to detail, guaranteeing you a kitchen that you have always dreamed of.
