Choosing your kitchen appliances for your bespoke kitchen is a big decision. Let our team of experts guide you through the options.
We know that choosing kitchen appliances is an investment – not only do you want them to fit in with your chosen kitchen design, you’re also looking for durability to last the lifetime of your kitchen. Add to that the extensive range of technology available for your kitchen, and it’s enough to make your head spin. But help is at hand… choosing kitchen appliances is an integral part of designing your dream kitchen with Willow Kitchens.
Should you save your old appliances?
This is a question that we’re asked a lot, and the answer is purely down to preference. If you’ve just bought the latest high-tech appliance, then we can work out how to incorporate it into your layout. We also understand the beauty in keeping period items, so your beautiful restored beams or classic range cooker won’t be forgotten either.
There are advantages to replacing your appliances as well. Kitchen technology moves quickly, and you can find an exhaustive range of appliances to fit your needs – some that you may not even have discovered yet! New appliances can also be incredibly energy-efficient, looking after the planet and lowering your bills.
Choosing your oven
The kitchen is where the cooking magic happens, so it’s often one of the first appliances that our clients look for. A freestanding oven makes an excellent focal point for the room and your available supply points will probably determine whether you opt for gas or electric, and the oven’s location. However, it is possible to work around this, so don’t let it stand in the way of your dream kitchen.
If space is at a premium, an integrated oven might be a better choice. Choosing an eye-level oven is a game-changer, and you can choose between single or double ovens depending on the space available.
There is a wide variety of hobs available to suit every aesthetic, layout and budget. Induction hobs are energy efficient, ultra-quick and safe, making them a very popular option, but others prefer the instant heat of a gas hob.
If you use a microwave frequently, you may wish to consider freeing up some counter space and opting for an integrated one. You can save even more space with a combined microwave-oven – hot air and grill functions recreate traditional oven-cooked results but at the speed of a microwave.
We’re proud to be partners of Aga, the British icon. Made in the company’s Shropshire foundry in Coalbrookdale, these beautiful cookers are forged from molten iron, then enamel-sprayed over a period of three days.
We also work with Neff, whose high tech kitchen appliances are built upon over a hundred years of experience manufacturing and providing household appliances throughout the country.

Choosing a fridge and freezer
The first step in buying a new fridge or freezer is thinking about your lifestyle. The size is usually governed by the number of people that you have to feed and the frequency that you go shopping. If you have the space available, you may opt for a cavernous American-style fridge freezer or, if space is at a premium, slimmer models are available. Standard tall fridges usually measure between 50cm and 70cm wide, while American-style fridges are much larger – up to 90cm wide. Fridges and freezers need good ventilation for optimum use, so if you’re looking to hide them away, we recommend looking at specially-designed integrated units.
It’s no longer just a choice of white boxes for the corner of your kitchen either. You can choose from sleek black and inconspicuous stainless steel units, or even fun retro style fridge freezers in a rainbow of colours from Smeg. Don’t forget to check out the additional features such as quick chill technology or water dispensers, or even a fridge that connects to your wi-fi. Our experts will talk you through the available options.
And don’t forget wine chillers, the ultimate accessory for those that love to entertain. Not only will all your favourite bottles be kept at an optimal temperature, but it also frees up space in your main fridge as well.
