About the project
A Joyful Fusion of East and West in a Georgian Country House
As featured in House & Garden
This elegant home, forming one wing of a substantial Georgian country house in rural Buckinghamshire, provided the perfect setting for a deeply personal and creative transformation. Though the rolling hills and pastoral calm of the English countryside might feel worlds apart from the humid vibrancy of Singapore, it was precisely this contrast that made the project so compelling.
The client, returning to the UK after more than 20 years living and working in Singapore, envisioned a home that would seamlessly blend her love of Asian art and lifestyle with the charm of a quintessentially English setting. When she reached out to interior designer Elizabeth Hay—who had spent over a decade running her studio in Singapore before opening a second base in Wiltshire—a unique Anglo-Singaporean partnership was born. Together, they set out to create a space that would reflect both the client’s heritage and her new chapter back in Britain.
The property, a Grade II listed Georgian house, offered grandeur and character, but the challenge lay in making it feel vibrant, joyful, and deeply personal. We were thrilled to be commissioned to design and manufacture the new kitchen, which would become the heart of this home—a space to cook, gather, and reflect the client’s global sensibilities.
The brief was clear: a cosy, colourful kitchen that celebrated pattern, layered textures, and bold yet balanced tones. The final palette—“Farrow’s Cream”, “Breakfast Room Green”, and “Radicchio” by Farrow & Ball—was chosen for its warmth and elegance, echoing the hues found in the client’s Asian art collection while complementing the period features of the house.
The kitchen layout was designed with both beauty and function in mind. The sink run overlooks the expansive garden and rolling countryside, offering a serene view during daily routines. A bespoke kitchen dresser, finished with delicate gingham fabric panels, adds softness and a sense of tradition, while a distinctive custom-made cupboard conceals the fridge-freezer—ensuring every element of the space feels intentional and considered.
This kitchen tells a story—not just of colour and craft, but of connection across continents. It reflects a life lived richly in two worlds, brought together with charm, creativity, and care.
